I’ve been keeping my eye out for a cute bench for our entrance, now that my 3-year-old is showing his independence and learning to put on his own shoes. My friend came across a super inexpensive Craigslist find that just needed a bit of love. Naturally I jumped at the challenge and picked this one up for only $50.
The story behind this piece was that the women’s husband first purchased it for her as a gift when they got married and bought their first home. She recovered the seat once since it was purchased but had been a place where her children, as they grew, used to learn to tie their shoes, a place for two, and a welcoming piece in their entrance.
Once I got it home, we realized that it was a bit too deep for our entrance but I thought it would be great for the end of our kitchen table.
A bit of paint, (my favourite is Country Chic Paint in Vanilla frosting), some inexpensive left over drop cloth canvas (from my curtains), my trusty sandpaper and staple gun, and the results were exactly what I was hoping for.
Although it won’t be used for learning to tie shoes, or a seat to gather backpacks, I hope it can be a place where many memories, meals and friends can rest at around our kitchen table.
